Aaron Hopkins of Google wrote an article on Optimizing Page Load Time which, while not Ajax specific, provides some great lessons on tweaking the performance of web applications. In particular, the code he providers for measuring user bandwidth within the browser and reporting it up to his logs is very similar to a technique I will discuss in great detail in the coming weeks.
